Victoria Hall comes into its own as a venue for musical performance, in particular choral, orchestral or other larger ensemble productions. Indeed, music is in the building’s DNA as the original design was that of a concert hall featuring an orchestra pit built into the lower floor at the far end. Although the pit is no longer there, the local, regional and international ensembles we host these days all testify that a very sympathetic acoustic remains.
We are headquarters to the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra who both practice and play the bulk of their regular season concerts here and over the last couple of years. We have also hosted, among others, the Sheffield City Opera, The Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus with The 18th Century Sinfonia and the Harvestehuder Sinfonieorchester from Hamburg, Sheffield Music Hub, Opera on Location, Vivacity Choir, Worrall Male Voice Choir, Stannington Mixed Choir, BEVOX, and Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus. Additionally, we are thrilled to maintain well developed connections to numerous local community music organisations and the Sheffield schools’ music service.
Facilities here include both a full sized and a baby grand piano, flexible seating and staging configurations at ground level, various acoustic treatments around the walls, a one hundred seat upper gallery, a usable café area near the venue entrance, various rooms which can serve as dressing rooms or “green rooms” and staff with sound engineering training and experience. We are always trying to develop what we can offer our clients. With this approach we hope to broaden the range of concerts we present and would be delighted if your event was among them.
