Team Spotlight: Toby

Two of our caretakers—sam and Toby are doing volunteer work while on furlough.  Toby has written about his work with the Foodhall project..

''While it’s important that we stay socially distant in this time, it’s just as important that we make sure that other forms of social and physical needs can be addressed, which is why I’ve been using my time helping out with Foodhall Sheffield’s food distribution efforts. While I’ve been closely linked to this project for years to address food poverty and social isolation, this crisis has made very clear the need for community food provision in the time of austerity.

My main role as coordinator for the warehouse and food package delivery drivers has meant being at the heart of this distribution effort, coordinating across dozens of volunteers a week (with many more keen to get on the busy rotor) to deliver by car or bike from the city centre to the edges of Rotherham. I’ve been extremely grateful to be a regular part of an effort which addresses urgent needs and demonstrates practical solidarity every day, with the added bonus of allowing me to work in person with our wonderful volunteers (even if it’s still from a distance).''

Cheers, Toby
