The Music of John Williams vs Hans Zimmer (2 shows)

The Great British Film Orchestra presents The Music of  John Williams vs Hans Zimmer - performed in the stunning Victoria Hall in Sheffield

Experience a breathtaking celebration of John Williams, Hans Zimmer and the greatest film scores ever written, brought to life by a chamber orchestra.

Step into a world where cinematic music history is brought to life. This year, The Great British Film Orchestra proudly embarks on a spectacular UK-wide tour, presenting The Music of John Williams vs Hans Zimmer - an orchestral duel between two titans whose scores have defined generations of storytelling.

For over half a century, John Williams has shaped the sound of wonder itself. His unforgettable themes for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, Jurassic Park and more have become modern mythology - fanfares that summon heroes, awaken galaxies and stir the imagination of millions. His music is symphonic grandeur at its purest, rooted in classical tradition yet alive with adventure, heart and timeless magic.

Opposing him stands Hans Zimmer, the architect of bold, thunderous, revolutionary sound. With groundbreaking scores for The Dark Knight, Gladiator, The Lion King and beyond, Zimmer reinvented the very language of film music. His fusion of orchestra, electronics, and relentless rhythm forged a new cinematic era - powerful, primal, unmistakably modern.

Bringing these monumental worlds to the stage is The Great British Film Orchestra, one of the UK’s premier symphonic ensembles devoted to the art of film music. Renowned for their rich, commanding sound and vivid performances, this chamber orchestra transforms every concert into a widescreen experience - transporting audiences from ancient coliseums and distant galaxies to enchanted kingdoms and shadowed cityscapes.

This extraordinary touring production is more than a concert - it is a celebration of two musical legends whose work has shaped the emotional core of cinema itself. Expect soaring strings, heroic brass, electrifying percussion and moments of pure, breathtaking spectacle as Williams’ iconic themes meet Zimmer’s thunderous power in a night of symphonic glory.

John Williams. Hans Zimmer. One orchestra. Infinite adventure.

Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, the Four Seasons

A unique concert will take place at the stunning Victoria Hall in Sheffield on the 2nd of May.

Join us for an evening featuring the famous Antonio Vivaldi cycle «The Four Seasons» in the unique interpretation of contemporary composer Max Richter, performed by the extraordinary Mystery Ensemble.

Max Richter is the composer of music for dozens of feature films and documentaries. The European Film Academy voted him the best film composer in 2008. He changed the music of Antonio Vivaldi in the spirit of minimalism and postmodernism. Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons is one of Richter’s most famous works. After its release in 2012, the recording topped the iTunes Classical Music charts in over 20 countries.

Max Richter has recorded 12 solo albums and performed at the London Barbican, the Paris Philharmonic, the Sydney Opera and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and among his projects are the Sum Opera and the Infra ballet (choreographed by Wayne MacGregor) at Covent Garden. Richter’s music is heard in many performances around the world, as well as in the films «Shutter Island» by Martin Scorsese, «Last Love on Earth» by David Mackenzie, «Waltz with Bashir», for the soundtrack to which he received the award «Best Composer» from the European Film Academy.

The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi is one of the most famous and frequently performed works of classical music. The Italian master wittily and gracefully captured in music the way his contemporaries saw the world and nature. The Vivaldi cycle is both a philosophical reflection of a magnificent illustrated «calendar» and a «sightseeing tour» of the regions of Italy.

Duration: 60 minutes (doors will open 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time, and late entry is not permitted)

Doors: 6:00pm
Starts at 6:30pm
